Oh Artemis, how could you have known? You are the goddess of wilderness, of wild animals and vegetation. And yet, how could you have known about endosymbiosis—organisms happily living inside other organisms that both may benefit. Green photosynthetic algae cells, say, living in the cytoplasm of the Loxodes unicellular ciliate.

Oh Artemis, you are the much-loved goddess of the Moon. And yet, how could you have known that in a thousand years or two, we would visit you? And we would be propelled forth by a liquid oxygen made long long ago by those same algae cells.

Oh Artemis, you could not have known, for Science had not yet shown. But Artemis is coming, Artemis.
